Con profunda tristeza supe de la muerte del Dr. Raúl Alfonsín, a quien tuve el honor de conocer y tratar hace ya varios años. La Argentina entera está de luto por la pérdida de este gran hombre, incansable luchador por la democracia y buen amigo de México. Recuerdo haberlo visitado alguna vez en su departamento de Buenos Aires donde recibía con gran modestia y sencillez. Me impresionó su clara inteligencia y profunda vocación latinoamericana. Como dijo acertadamente Joaquín Morales Solá en su columna de La Nación: “Era, ahora lo sabemos, un político querido o respetado, que no despertaba rechazos entre los dirigentes ni en la gente común. Cuesta comparar la conmoción social y el dolor popular que provocó en las últimas horas la muerte de Raúl Alfonsín con aquel presidente de 1989 que debió entregar el gobierno cinco meses antes de la conclusión de su mandato, en medio de una grave crisis económica. ¿Es consecuencia sólo de su carisma? Lo tenía, y en un grado importante, pero también es cierto que él expresaba valores que la sociedad está extrañando…”
